When workers are unemployed, their families lose wages, and the nation as a whole loses their contribution to the economy in terms of the goods or services that could have been produced. Unemployed workers also lose their purchasing power, which can lead to unemployment for more workers, creating a cascading effect that ripples through the economy. 5 Vitals Tips to Execute for Becoming a Smart Job Seeker

Tip 1: Know What You Want

Have you narrowed your search down to a job title? Are you able to articulate what types of responsibilities you’re hoping to have in a job? These are all important aspects to consider before applying. Be specific – How does your dream job look to you? Envision it and write it down. By doing this, it can help spark new ideas about what you might want to do, and where to look for it. Come up with at least five responsibilities that align with your experience and interests, as well your work environment and ideal work schedule. Then, take that list and compare it with the jobs you’re applying to.

Tip 2: Don’t Limit Yourself To Online Applications

Do you desire that job search to last and last? Well, then continue to rely totally on submitting online applications. You want to accelerate this bad boy? Don’t halt once you apply online for that position. Start searching and then endearing yourself to people working at that company of interest. Schedule informational interviews with would-be peers. Approach an internal recruiter and ask a few queries. Get on the radar of the very people who might influence you for acquiring an interview.

Tip 3: Expand Your Skills

If you are just entering the workforce or beginning a new career, you might want more experience or training to get a job. Consider obtaining an internship or volunteering with an organization in your desired industry while applying for jobs. Utilize these opportunities to advance to a full-time position or grow your network of contacts. You might also take online courses or attend workshops to develop certain skills or learn processes and technologies relevant to your industry. Update your resume as you gain more experience or accomplishments.

Tip 4: Never Say Anything Bad About A Previous Recruiter

Did you work before at another company? If yes, then remember that one of the most common interview mistakes is badmouthing your boss or co-workers. The first thing the interviewer is going to wonder is what you will say about their company when you’re moving on. So, ensure that you’ll not do something as so stupid as talking ill about your previous recruiter or co-workers.

Tip 5: Remain positive

Interviewers can read negativity pretty quickly, and nobody wishes to hire a negative person. By following the first four tips, you will be a more confident (smart) job seeker with more focus, and with a clear picture of the right job that’s the right fit.

Basic Essentials Required for a Successful Job Search

You’ve probably heard it said that job hunting is a fulltime job. I don’t believe that’s necessarily the case, but it is an activity that needs serious commitment. You’ll likely fail if you’re job hunting in your spare time, only on weekends or “when you get to it.” To get serious, schedule specific blocks of time in your calendar that is dedicated to your job hunt. I’d suggest starting with 30 uninterrupted minutes a day and adding time from there.

A Really Big List

A Really Big List is a collection of every idea you have that’s related to your job search — companies you’d love to work for, internships to apply for, people you’ve been meaning to talk to, blogs to subscribe to and anything and everything else. Start a list in a notebook, an Excel doc or in a file on your phone and keep it with you at all times. Your list will provide the assignments for the job search sessions you’ve now made the time for: employers to research, people to invite for informational interviews, events to attend, etc. It’s like a journal and assignment book all in one.

The Best Resume You Can Possibly Have

Although the economy is getting better, it’s still an incredibly competitive job market, so your resume has to be the very best it can be. Don’t wing it! If you can afford a professional resume writer, appoint one. If you’re in college or are a recent grad, get a resume rewrite from your college career center.

If you can’t do either of these things, then ask your smartest, most successful friend (ideally someone who works or has worked in your industry) for help. No matter how you improve your resume, the time, effort and/or money spent will be well worth it.

3 Mistakes to Evade Whilst Applying for a Job

#1: Forwarding a resume riddled with flaws

Given that most recruiters spend barely 30 seconds on a resume, you need to make it as attractive and convincing a case for yourself as you can. More imperatively, make certain it is free of flaws because it is a big reason for rejections.

A strict no-no is spelling mistakes, typos, and grammatical goof-ups. Such errors are a big put-off for employers, who view the candidate as a person who does not pay attention to details.

Another unforgivable mistake is falsifying about your skills, experience or lying other details on the resume. Remember, if you are shortlisted, firms will inevitably run a verification check and if you are found wanting, your reputation will be shred to bits. And, of course, you are unlikely to land a job quickly.

Any mismatch between the details on your social media profile and resume is also undesirable. So keep your resume updated with an eye on work experience and dates. Many job seekers also view the resume as an application that needs to be packed with as much data as possible. Rather, it should be viewed as a marketing tool intended to sell yourself at a glance. So try to keep it with bulleted points, crisp and short, that can be taken up for detailed conversation at an in-person interview afterwards.

Finally, fill up your resume with keywords that are going to likely show up on the databases of firms and headhunters. If you have the qualifications and requisite skills for the job and are not noticed by the employer, it will be a waste of your effort and time.

#2: Sending a generic cover letter & resume to everyone

In their rush to get on with the search after losing a job, many applicants make an easily avoidable blunder: send out the similar copy of a resume and cover letter to all potential recruiters. If your CV reads like a template picked off an online CV builder, with minimal changes to make it presentable and no effort, no employer is going to touch you.

Prepare your resume that you are applying to in a way such that it seems relevant to the role, industry and firm.

Your cover letter should not speak to a faceless entity, but to the person, and try to convince him why your qualifications make you the best fit for the role. This argument must be played out and reflected in the resume, listing your vision and strengths, and how these align with the role and firm’s vision. If your resume appears and views like a copy-paste version, no employer will read it, it will be boring.

Also make certain you pick the CV layout suited to the current stage and experience in your career. For instance, do not pick a resume that begins with work experience even though you are just in your second job, or one that simply lists out every company you’ve ever worked for without describing what exactly you did there.

#3: Not following up or following up too aggressively with recruiter or company

What should you do after sending in the bio? How long should you wait before contacting the employer or recruiter? Many job seekers make the mistake of getting the timing of follow-up wrong. Recall that no employer is going to reply the very next day.

Even so, it is a good idea to send a message on LinkedIn or email instead of calling up as it might be considered intrusive in the initial stages of the selection process. It may be more suitable to call if you have been shortlisted for an interview.

At the junior level, the employer might take to get back even longer, say, 15 days. So do not drop a mail prior two weeks or you might be considered too desperate for a job and are likely to weaken your bargaining position.

Sometimes, head hunters may like your CV and keep the profile in their databases for as long as 1-3 months before getting back. This is because they may not possess the correct opening at the moment and respond only when an appropriate position opens up.

When you do send a follow-up mail, make certain it is crisp, short, and lucid. The subject line should be clearly mentioned and the mail must be politely worded. Briefly reaffirm your interest in the job and why you are a perfect fit. Remind them of your CV and ask for a response. If you still don’t get mail, you are clearly not the frontrunner for the job.

Mistake 1: Not Possessing Enough Research Before Enrolling

Before enrolling in training, students must gather adequate information about the training, its content, its ratings, online and offline reviews, and media articles and blogs. Why? Because if you do not research, it doesn’t ensure that your learning goals (gaining a new skill, getting an internship/job in the future, building a project of their own, or getting certified) will be met successfully. So, research well enough to fulfil your learning expectations.

Mistake 2: Not Taking Down Notes (Undisciplined)

Wish to Make a Successful Career via YouTube? Follow these 3 Vital Tips

YouTube is certainly enticing as a career. Each day, countless numbers of people try making a career for themselves on YouTube. However, today, you must deal with the fact that whatever your niche is going to be, there are at least another 100 people talking about the same stuff on a daily basis.

It’s not that easy and not too difficult. Yes, YouTube is definitely the alternative of pursuing your interests with creativity, but there are some cons to it as well.

Even if you view YouTube as a way to make some nice money on the side or as a full-time career, to become an efficient YouTuber you need to ensure that you consider these below 7 essential pointers:

  • Be Passionate About Your Niche
  • Have A Vibrant Personality
  • Do Not Limit Yourself
  • Refer Others, But Do Not Copy
  • Try Covering Something, Never Done Earlier
  • Never Give Up
  • Audio Is Key

Now let’s view at some of the cons of pursuing YouTube Career:

  • Ideas Get Plagiarized

Starting a YouTube Channel is easy. What if your idea gets copied and the copied video finds the momentum that you couldn’t? A lot of brands pursue plagiarism cases aggressively but small-time channel owners aren’t able to keep track of the new content so there’s no way of finding out if the idea got copied unless it blew up.

  • Takes A Lot Time

It’s hard to find an audience altogether. Even if your content is focused on trends, it’s really hard to be among the 5 billion videos that are watched every day on YouTube. Why? This is because every minute, 300 hours of videos are uploaded to YouTube. So, you can just imagine the choice YouTubers have! Therefore, cultivating an organic audience of hundreds of thousands of viewers may take time.

  • Maintaining Video Quality

Generating videos consistently with the same quality is another challenge as developing the right script may take time. Not many video channel owners may have the capital to invest in the materials needed to produce sufficient content to go on-board with another video or a follow up in the series.

Hope that you now know how much conviction and vision is needed while pursuing a YouTube Career.

So, how can someone have a successful career on YouTube? Well, to answer this question here are 3 vital tips to become a successful YouTuber:

Tip 1: Learn How To Market Yourself

Remember that on YouTube, you are your own brand. And, just like any other product, you need to market it correctly if you desire to do money by selling it. Build your own character, so you’re unique and intriguing enough to make a difference. However, do not let this character go above your head. Also, try to stay humble no matter what.

Tip 2: Emphasize On Attractive Thumbnails Design

I know what you’re thinking: “It’s just a thumbnail, who bothers? Video content is what really matters.” The truth of the sort is – thumbnails matter a lot nowadays. A thumbnail is the first (and frequently the only) thing that viewers will view after they type in their query.

A captivating one with some fancy graphics and vibrant colours has a much larger chance to entice a user into clicking it and watching your video. Thus, designing good-looking thumbnails is critical, if you wish to ensure the popularity of your YouTube channel as well as yourself.

Tip 3: Boost Your Ranking With YouTube SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a set of practices used to boost the chances of content to be found in search engines like Google or the internal YouTube search engine. And implementing a good SEO is crucial to “convince” the algorithm that your videos should be recommended to a lot of different people.

By working on SEO, you assist the YouTube algorithm to understand in-case your video was relevant or not for a certain query. Thus, knowing how to work with the algorithm is vital.

It sure takes money to make impressive videos with high quality, but what’s the most imperative advice is that you should always keep in mind that you cannot be a YouTuber for long unless you love creating your own content. If you really love and enjoy making new videos, it’s just a matter of time for you to have a successful career in YouTube.

Skills For A Resilient Youth: World Youth Skills Day 2020

15 July 2020, also better known and celebrated every year as World Youth Skills Day focuses on the goal to equip the youth with employment skills, jobs and entrepreneurship, and to emphasize the vital role of skilled youth while addressing the present and future challenges around the globe.

History of World Youth Skills Day

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in December 2014 adopted a resolution and announced 15th July as World Youth Skills Day. This day was established and acknowledged in order to help the youth acquire better socio-economic conditions as a means of addressing the issues of underemployment and unemployment in the country.
It created an opportunity for many young people, public and private sector stakeholders, and Technical & Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to celebrate and recognize the significance of technical employment skills training, jobs and entrepreneurship.

Significance of World Youth Skills Day

The increase in the number of youth unemployment in the developed and developing countries is one of the most important problems faced today by the economies and societies.
According to, “The latest Global Employment Trends for Youth 2020: Technology and the future of jobs” it stated that since 2017, there has been a rise in the youth not in employment, education or training (NEET).

In the year 2016, it states that there were 259 million young people classified as NEET. This number increased to an estimated 267 million in 2019 and further increased to around 273 million in 2021. The rate of NEET increased from 21.7% in 2015 to 22.4% in 2020. It also implied that the international target to reduce the NEET rate by 2020 will be missed.

How is World Youth Skills Day 2020 different?

On account of the coronavirus pandemic, and due to its challenging circumstances and
safety measures during lockdown, it has led to the closure of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions worldwide, threatening the continuity of the skills development.

Focusing on resilience, the 2020 World Youth Skills Day theme is based on: SKILLS FOR A RESILIENT YOUTH. The event will be organized virtually between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm by the Permanent Missions of Sri Lanka and Portugal to the UN, the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, UNESCO and ILO. (Click here, https://bit.ly/32dowWh)

The event will deal with the covid-19 impact in skills development, the rapid changes in entrepreneurship and self employment, and will explore the steps to unfold the crisis faced in the economy in response.

Hope that all the youth will join in the celebrations of World Youth Skills Day 2020, and raise awareness on Skill Development!

Top 5 Hints To Acing Your Next Virtual Interview

Amidst the current global pandemic, “COVID-19” there has been a swift requirement for bringing many job vacancies (by different companies) online.

With nearly all professionals working from home or finding new openings remotely, various recruiting processes of several companies now are being conducted virtually via a video conferencing. Through Virtual interviews, hiring managers can now reach out to group of global candidates and gain cost-effective approach to screen potential job applicants.

Virtual interviews have become a necessity today when traditional interviews cannot happen face-to-face. Acing the Virtual interview is generally the first step on the way to follow-up interview and subsequent employment.

To ace the interview and increase the odds that a recruiter asks you to come in for round two of an interview, here’s what you need to follow: 5 Hints For Mastering Your Next Virtual Interview.

But, before that let us know – What is a Virtual interview?

A virtual interview also referred to a video interview is considered as a job interview which leverages video technology to let discussion happen remotely. Instead of face-to-face meeting, the recruiter and the candidate will associate with each other online utilising video software.

The tools needed for this type of meeting commonly involve a computer with a built-in or external video camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, and headphones if wished for. The interview frequently follows the approach of an in-person, traditional interview, even though there are some vital elements that need to be kept in mind. Below are the 5 hints that will help you to prepare and ace your next virtual interview:

Hint 1: Test Your Technology

Having technical skills is considered by job hirers as one of the top abilities to possess. Most hiring managers usually search and prefer those candidates who possess these skills. The employers easily measure your capabilities during Virtual interview. It is best that you completely avoid technical malfunctions by examining your equipment prior to the call.

If your video conferencing tool generates muffled audio or grainy visuals, it is time that you put money on new microphone or external webcam. Also a vital point to remember, see to it that your internet connection is secure. Nothing stops a conversation (mid-persuasion point) quite like a disconnected call.

Hint 2: Maintain A Professional Virtual Identity

An email address or username is often your first interpretation of yourself in today’s digital world. During the interview make sure that you do not give any opportunity or reason to the hiring manager to comment on your identity. Make it a point to offer simple email address and username by maintaining professionalism.

You can try different variations of first, middle, and last name or use industry keywords if stuck. Avoid utilization of numbers one and zero (they look similar to letters depending on the font you use) and symbols which can cause confusion.

Note: To give that first impression to the employer don’t ever use a humorous email address that you once used in high school or if you’re still utilising it.

Hint 3: Observe Your Body Language

It is unfortunate that with Virtual interview it is not feasible for you to greet the recruiter with that firm handshake and enthusiasm that you could once possibly achieve through an in-person interview. So now what?

Don’t be disappointed, for you can convey your confidence via body language. How? During the interview you need to smile, sit straight and adjust the camera at the eye level to evade from looking up and down. Always be sure to stay focused by watching the camera and not the screen image of the recruiter as you speak.

Hint 4: Eliminate Distractions

While attending Virtual interviews there is bound to be a lot of distractions that pop up which you usually never encounter during traditional interview in an employer’s office. Make certain that you rid yourself of all the potential interruptions which occur from your end before the start of the video call.

For instance, close the window to cover up any blaring sirens or honking horns, switch off the TV and silence your mobile phone. Although you cannot plan to minimize all the distractions, it is safe to be well prepared.

Hint 5: Ask Good Questions

Always prepare your questions well ahead of the time. While asking questions be certain that you avoid asking information that could be obtained online. It is a good habit to note down the answers to the asked questions.

By taking notes you make a positive first impression in front of the employer by showing that you’re vigilant and possess the passion for the position. Not only that, it also provides a great way to write down questions that you desire to ask at the end of the discussion or through a follow-up.

Virtual interviews are becoming increasingly popular. Professionals who are bound to meet this type of interview need to take the necessary steps to prep themselves. Implement these 5 hints and you’re sure to ace (also giving you the head-start by pushing you one step ahead to join the company) your next Virtual interview.
