The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in December 2014 adopted a resolution and announced 15th July as World Youth Skills Day. The increase in the number of youth unemployment in the developed and developing countries is one of the most important problems faced today by the economies and societies.
According to, “The latest Global Employment Trends for Youth 2020: Technology and the future of jobs” it stated that since 2017, there has been a rise in the youth not in employment, education or training (NEET).

In the year 2016, it states that there were 259 million young people classified as NEET. This number increased to an estimated 267 million in 2019 and further increased to around 273 million in 2021. The rate of NEET increased from 21.7% in 2015 to 22.4% in 2020. It also implied that the international target to reduce the NEET rate by 2020 will be missed.

How is World Youth Skills Day 2020 different?
