NATIONAL ENTRANCE SCREENING TEST

Introduction

The National Entrance Screening Test also popularly known as NEST is an annual college entrance examination in India conducted jointly by the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, and Mumbai University – Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS). NEST is the sole criterion for admission to their undergraduate programs as well as the Integrated Science Education & Research Centre (ISERC) of Visva-Bharati University has been using the merit list of NEST for admission into its undergraduate program.

Eligibility Criteria

As per the eligibility criteria of the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) candidates appearing for this exam have to meet the age limit, educational qualifications, and the qualifying exam that are accepted by National Entrance Screening Test (NEST). Only those candidates who meet the eligibility criteria only should apply for the entrance exam. Age Criteria

The candidate belonging to the General or OBC category must be born on or after August 1, 2003, and the reserved ie, SC,  ST, and PwD category candidates are given a relaxation of maximum 5 years

Educational Qualification

Candidates appearing in NEST seeking admission into a NISER and/or CEBS need to have qualified 12th board examination under the 10+2 education system or equivalent from a recognized board with a minimum aggregate of 60% from Science stream


The candidate must also have qualified the last qualifying examination a year prior

Marks required

The candidates of general and OBC category must have passed with at least 60% aggregate in the qualifying exam and reserved category candidates that is SC, ST, and PwD category candidates must have scored at least 55% in their Class 12th qualifying exam.

Application Process

Step 1 Registration

Candidates will have to Visit the official website nestexam.in and Click on the ‘Online Application’ tab after which the registration form will be displayed on the screen

Step 2 Fill out the form

Candidates have to Enter the following information required in the application form, Date of Birth, Name of the applicant, Class 10 Roll Number/Seat Number, Mobile Number, Email ID, And Gender and After entering the details, click on the ‘Register’ tab. After completing this process Candidates will receive the user ID and password on their registered mobile number and email ID along with the link for the login page.

Step 3 Login

Use the link provided on the mobile number and email address, A login page will be displayed on the screen the candidates must Enter the user ID and password received through the email or SMS and Click on the ‘login’ tab

Step 4 Details and Educational Qualification

Candidates can select up to a maximum of five exam centers from the available list and click on the ‘Save and Next’ tab where candidates have to enter their academic details in the application form. Candidates appearing for the final year examination or waiting for the result do not have to fill the percentage of marks in the NEST application form

Step 5 Upload Documents

Click on the ‘Click here to upload’ to upload the scanned image and photograph and upload the scanned copy of photograph and signature in the required specifications


  • The photograph must necessarily have a white background and should not be more than six months old from the date of application
  • Passport Size Photograph must be in jpg or jpeg format and 80 kb size 
  • Signature in jpg or jpeg format and 80 kb size

Step 6 Application Fee Payment

The final step is to Pay the application fee via credit card, debit card or net banking. The fee is 1200 INR for General and OBC male candidates. Rs 600 for SC, ST, and PwD male candidates and 600 for all Female candidates.
