Chemical and Petroleum Engineering

Engineering is the most-well paying and respectable job in the society. Engineers design, produce, improve and innovate new technologies to make our lives easier. There are multiple fields associated with engineering in which one can specialize like Chemical, Petroleum, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical engineering, etc.

Chemical Engineering course involves designing, manufacturing, improving, and supervising chemical reactions in an industry like food, health, drug, etc., for the purpose of human development and production of energy. It plays an influential role in areas of technology.

Petroleum engineering is involved with the production and exploration of oil and gas. Knowledge regarding many other disciplines like petroleum geology, geophysics, economics, reservoir simulation, reservoir engineering, artificial lift systems, etc. is required in this field.

Chemical and Petroleum Engineer Requirements

The first and foremost requirement to be a Chemical Engineer degree is a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering. Petroleum Engineering degree aspirants can opt for it with a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering. Experience and more education is desirable and Industry specific knowledge may be required. Additional chemical and petroleum engineering certifications or licenses are also required for some positions. Must be well acquainted with usage of computers and have a strong grasp of chemistry, mathematics, biology, and engineering principles. Should have the ability to handle a physically demanding and stressful work environment.

Most colleges that offer Petrochemical Engineering courses admit students only after they appear in National or state-level engineering examinations.

To get admission in the UG programme (B.Tech.), the student must appear in JEE Main after completing their +2 examination with minimum of 75% aggregate in 2021, and for the PG programme(M.Tech.), they have to appear for the GATE examination which they can qualify for only after completing their UG Programme with an aggregate of 55% minimum marks. Candidates can also appear in JEE advanced, with a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in their 10+2 examinations.

There are also various state-level exams to get into this course like MH CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test), and BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission.

Must have IT Skills certification:

Career Opportunities

Chemical Engineering studies is a well-paying course that gives you many opportunities. With a global shift to renewable resources, chemical engineers have become a significant part of conserving our environment. It is ideal for students who want to pursue a career in applied chemistry.

Their responsibility is to solve problems that involve the production or use of chemicals.

Engineers use a method called chemical processing used in manufacturing to change the chemical composition to improve it for our use.

Chemical engineers improve the processing technique of food and fertilizers in order to increase quantity as well as quality of available food.

Chemical engineers also find the problems and figure out solutions to environmental problems such as pollution control.

Petroleum engineering is a globally demanded job and has a great scope. Many oil and gas companies provide petroleum engineering work.

Petroleum engineers design machineries and equipment to extract oil and gas from onshore and offshore reserves deep underground.

Engineers make machinery and equipment to drill oil and gas and then recover oil and gas from offshore and onshore reserves.

Through surveys, testing and analysis, the engineers evaluate the production of wells.
