Introduction

The Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council (AASSC) is the top body in the developing Aerospace and Aviation sector for skill development. The AASSC was established as part of a government-led and industry-led push to improve the skills of the Indian workforce.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology (AASSC)On September 12, 2014, the Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council (AASSC) was established as a Section 8 Company (under the Companies Act 2013). AASSC is one of the several Sector Skill Councils (SSC) that have been established with the support of a National Skill Development Corporation grant (NSDC). NSDC gives grant funding to all SSCs during their first few years of operation. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bangalore Chamber of Industries & Commerce (BCIC), and the Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies & Industries are the AASSC’s promoters (SIATI). In addition to the promoters’ stock, the company has obtained a grant from the National Skill Development Agency.

The Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council’s mission is to close the skills gap in the aerospace and aviation industry, particularly in areas like design and development, aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), airline operations, and airports. To meet this lofty goal, AASSC will enlist the help of all stakeholders, including the government, businesses, regulatory organisations, research institutions, academic institutions, and training providers. In order to ensure horizontal and vertical mobility of skilled manpower into the Aerospace and Aviation Sector in India, the vision will be realised through the preparation of an occupational map, the formulation of National Occupational Standards, the establishment of skill delivery mechanisms through affiliated training providers, and the establishment of accreditation bodies leading to certification of new trainees and retraining.

Mission

The Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council’s (AASSC) mission is to involve all stakeholders in the development of demand estimates, the establishment of National Occupational Standards (NOS), skill delivery mechanisms, accreditation of training bodies, and certification of new trainees and retraining in order to ensure mobility into the latest technology in the aerospace and aviation industries.

Military aircraft, missiles, space, commercial airliners, and general aviation are all served by the aerospace industry, which is one of the largest and most powerful in the United States. The aerospace industry in the United States is the largest in the world, and it is the principal supplier of both military and civil aerospace hardware.

Over 509,000 individuals work in scientific and technical roles directly in this area, and over 700,000 people work in related fields indirectly. Because of the high value placed on research and development (R&D), engineers, scientists, and technicians make up around a quarter of people employed in the aerospace industry. With yearly growth rates of at least 14 percent, aviation is one of the most rapidly rising businesses in the United States.

Aerospace Business

The aerospace industry’s product range is wide since its main products, flight vehicles, require millions of different parts. Other support systems are also necessary to run and repair the vehicles. Military aircraft have the highest market share in terms of sales, followed by space systems, civil aircraft, and missiles.

According to a survey by the US Department of Commerce, aerospace exports support more jobs, both directly and indirectly, than any other product. The aerospace sector in the United States generated $151 billion in international sales in 2018.

Many subsectors of the aerospace industry contribute to the industry’s growth. Commercial space firms, for example, design, construct, and launch advanced rockets and spacecraft. Revenue growth is projected for these companies as interest and spending in everything from space tourism to space exploration to enhanced satellite communications and space laboratories grows. SpaceX, Boeing, and Virgin Galactic are just a handful of the commercial space enterprises battling.

Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), sometimes known as drones, are another subsector of the aerospace industry. A UAS does not have a pilot on board; instead, it is operated remotely or autonomously. While drones are mostly utilised for military, research, and recreational purposes, drone delivery systems deployed by retail giants such as Amazon and Walmart may be the key growth market for UAS.
