Television and Film Industry

Introduction

A film is also called a movie, moving picture or motion picture. A Film is a work of visual art that is used to simulate experiences that communicate stories, ideas, perceptions, feelings, beauty, or atmosphere through the use of moving images. The movie images are also accompanied by sounds and on some rare occasions other sensory experiences.
The word cinema is an abbreviation for cinematography. Now a days, cinematography is referred to used as a word for the cinema industry and film making and the art that is required to create a movie. The motion picture or moving images are created by photographing actual scenes using a motion capture camera, photographing drawings and or using miniature models to create traditional animation Techniques and other visual effects.
In traditional forms, films were recorded onto celluloid film stock using a photo chemical process and then shown on a large screen through a movie projector. Contemporary films are mostly completely Digital through their entire process of production, distribution, and exhibition. On the other hand, traditional photo chemical forms of movies include an analogue optical soundtrack. Films are considered to be cultural heritage created by a specific culture. These cultures are reflected in these movies. Movies are considered to be a important type of art form and a source of entertainment. It can also be a powerful tool for educating and indoctrinating the general population. As the medium of communication is very visual it is a universal tool of communication. Some movies are worldwide popular and part of world pop culture through the use of Dubbing, subtitles and translation into multiple languages.
Films are made up of individual images that are known as frames. In the traditional film projections a rotating shutter causes intervals of darkness as each frame, in turn, is moved into position to be projected, but the viewer does not notice the interruptions because of an effect known as persistence of vision.

Job Description

The Cinema Industry, also known as film industry or the movie industry comprises of the technological and commercial institution of film making, which includes, film production companies, film studios, cinematography, animation, film production, screen writing, pre production, post production, festivals of film, distribution, acting, movie Directors and other personnel’s involved in the process. The expense of creating a movie is immense and traditionally almost all the movies were created only by the auspices of standing production companies with big budgets. However, the advancement in technology to create better and more affordable cameras and other film equipment, as well as the vast opportunities nowadays to acquire investment capital from outside the film industry has opened a new gate for independent film industry and has led the independent film industry to evolve.

In 2019 the world box office was worth about 42.2 Billion USD. If you take I to consideration the box office and home entertainment revenue combined, the global film industry is worth more than 136 Billion USD.

The Indian film industry is the largest national film industry in the world in terms of the number of films produced every year. With 1813 feature films produced annually, as of 2018. In 2011 the national film industry with the highest tickets sold worldwide annually was the Indian cinema with 3.5 billion tickets sold, which was followed by the Hollywood film industry with 2.6 billion tickets sold.

Types of Film Industry

American Cinema Industry:

The United States cinema Industry also known as the Hollywood has been a large influencer of the film industry all around the world ever since the 20th century. The dominant style of the American cinema is known as the classical Hollywood cinema, which was developed around 1913 to 1969 and used still today in most movies produced. While french movies are considered to be the birth place of cinema, the Hollywood soon became the dominant face of the industry since it’s emerging.

Indian cinema Industry:

The Indian cinema industry, also known as Bollywood, formally known as Bombay Cinema, is the Indian Hindi language film industry based in Mumbai. The industry is related to cinema of south Indian and other indian languages making up the Indian cinema which is the world’s largest cinema industry by the number of feature films produced.

Independent Film Industry:

Independent Film Industries are the ones produced by smaller production companies who don’t have the money or means to create films that are on par with big budget film studios. Independent films are concentrated upon an issue or a certain subject and are more realistic than studio films.

Industry

Television was first introduced to India in 1959. Since then the India TV Industry has seen a lot of transformation with the advancement of technology and time.  At the beginning the television programs were broadcast only twice a week and controlled by the government. However with time, many private television production companies came into existence.

Important

The film industry has a uniquely powerful connection with the real world human culture. In year 2009, there were 6.8 billion cinema admissions across all major territories, creating a global box office revenue of more than 30 billion USD and if considered the movies via digital media, television or repeat watching, the amount of revenue is immense.

The economic impact of movies is broad and clear and its effects on the wide economy is also significant. Movies make a significant part of the annual revenue of their economy.

Cinema also holds an importance in the culture of their respective region and era. Cinema lays out music, art, fashion and ideologies of a particular era and is considered as a part of the literature.

Career

The film industry is a huge industry and everyone related to this industry has a personalized journey. This means that you have to create a path for yourself in the film industry, there is no set blueprint that you need to follow. However there are many pathways to select from to enter into the film industry. There are plenty of agents, laweys, managers and producers on the business side of the table and there are also plenty of people in development and a ton of post production jobs. 

Jobs in The Film and Television Industry

Voice overs:

Voice actors must have remarkable talents in regards to their vocal abilities. They must know how to create emotions like  happy, sad, excited or angry in their audience just by changing their voices.

Actors:

An Actor’s primary duty is Communicate effectively the character that they are playing to their audience. 

They must be effective in communicating using voice, body, actions and reactions. The actor must be able to tell stories, engender emotional reactions in their audience and make people think using their art of Acting.

Director Of photography:

Director of photography, also known as the cinematographer of the movie, is the creative in charge during the production period of the movie. 

The Director of Photography is responsible for making sure all the equipment is working, the camera crew are properly coordinating and testing the special lenses and filters in advance.

Live action director:

Live action Directors are responsible for creating motion pictures, television shows, and video productions to entertain and inform the viewing audience. 

The Film director is responsible for selecting and reviewing scripts, auditioning and choosing the actors and other crew members.

Music director:

Music directors, sometimes known as conductors, are the lead in the musical groups. The music director is tasked with selecting appropriate songs that heightens the drama and emotions of the movie

Script writers:

Script writers are the one responsible to write down the story for the readers to envisage the setting, emotion and the way it will work on screen. They draft and redraft the script with the help and inputs of directors, producers and actors. If you are a storyteller then its worth trying to be a script writer.
