How to become a Teacher– Job, Salary, Work Profile. BEd is the minimum requirement for becoming a teacher in India. According to the Ministry of Human Resource Management, India has more than ten lakh teaching openings at the school level.

Candidates interested in pursuing a career as a teacher might choose from a variety of options. A subject specialist or a special educator who can work with pupils who are differently abled are two options.

A government teacher’s pay scale is INR 3,40,000 LPA on average, but it can rise with experience and expertise. A private school teacher’s pay scale is INR 2,01,000 LPA, which is significantly lower than that of government school instructors.

Candidates must get a minimum of 45%-50% in their class 12 or equivalent exams to pursue UG teacher training courses, and a minimum of 50% in their undergraduates to pursue PG programmes. To become a teacher in India, candidates must take a national level entrance exam such as the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET), or UGC-NET. Teaching programmes often last one to three years.

In India, the minimum educational requirement to become a teacher is a Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed.), which can be pursued after completing a Bachelor’s degree in any field. Therefore, after completing the 10th standard, one needs to complete higher secondary education and obtain a Bachelor’s degree before pursuing a B.Ed. degree.

However, there are some diploma-level courses available that one can pursue after completing 10th standard, which can serve as a foundation for a career in teaching. The most common diploma-level course is the Diploma in Education (D.Ed.), which is a two-year teacher training program. To pursue a D.Ed. course, one needs to fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the respective state’s board of education. Generally, the minimum eligibility criteria require a candidate to have completed 10+2 education with a minimum aggregate score of 50% and have proficiency in the regional language. After completing a D.Ed. course, one can apply for teaching positions in private schools or serve as an assistant teacher in government schools. However, to become a full-time teacher in government schools, one needs to clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the respective state’s board of education. In conclusion, to become a teacher in India after 10th standard, one needs to complete higher secondary education and obtain a Bachelor’s degree in any field. Alternatively, one can pursue a D.Ed. course, which is a two-year diploma-level teacher training program that can serve as a foundation for a career in teaching.
